Hello, my name is Irene Shooter, I am a Qualified & Experienced Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist. As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to their Ethical Framework and within good practice. I also hold a higher Diploma certificate level 5 in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I offer counselling in Mansfield and the surrounding areas including Nottingham, Chesterfield, Newark.
I trained as a ‘person centred’ counsellor, and use an integrative approach, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also offer supervision to both qualified and student counsellors.
I have my own Professional Indemnity Insurance.
I have counselled both male and female adult clients, one-to-one for Cruse Bereavement Care. Also, I have volunteered as a counsellor for Women’s Aid. I have also, counselled staff and students in a college setting.
I have worked with children aged between nine to eighteen years of age, who have experienced bereavement. In my work with children I use a range of creative materials, as I find it makes it easier for children to express themselves and aids the therapeutic process.
Training
In line with BACP guidelines, I undertake regular training and have completed courses, which enhance my work and give me a deeper understanding of the issues you may bring.
The most recent are Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). The course is a two-day workshop that teaches participants to carry out life-saving interventions for people at risk of suicide and Living and Working with Dissociation.
I have recently attended training on the Freedom Programme, and I’m now able to facilitate the course. The Freedom Programme is an educational programme for women experiencing domestic violence and abuse and enables women to gain knowledge and skills to protect themselves and children from harm. Controlling relationships are destructive and confusing, affecting all areas of family life. The Freedom Programme aims to develop an awareness of the power and control in abusive relationships. Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect, Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Bereavement Care, Domestic Violence & Abuse, Foundation Course in Awareness in Children & Young People’s Bereavement Care, Loss of a Child and Mental Health Awareness, Autism and Asperger’s, Child Protection, Attachment Workshop, Health and Safety at work and Dementia Awareness.
Integrative Approach to Counselling Supervision and Cognitive Behavioural Techniques.
In April 2019 I undertook some more training:-
- Mental Well-being in Children and Young People Certificate.
- Safeguarding Children Certificate.

Alongside my private practice, I work part time with Nottinghamshire Health Care in both Secondary and Primary Care, delivering (IAPT) Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, counselling adults who are experiencing mental health difficulties. Also, I currently work with a number of national Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP’s) and organisations who provide their employees with Counselling.
I work with clients who have difficulties with a whole range of issues to reduce and prevent their sickness and absence and support return to work. These often include work related stress, anxiety, depression, stress, panic, anger, trauma, bereavement, loss, phobias, family problems, relationships issues, low self- esteem, confidence & assertiveness, health concerns and many more that influence and have an emotional impact on everyday life.
